The claim: David Burke did not support developing Arnold Cypress Park.
The truth: David Burke supported developing Arnold Cypress Park — with different financing.
What actually happened
To rebuild Arnold Cypress Park, the City Council considered a $33.5 million plan, with the Cypress Recreation & Parks District bearing the full cost. David supported developing the park, but raised concerns about that overall price tag and about the District carrying the whole financial burden on its own.
David proposed and voted yes on an alternative plan, with the City paying $10 million of the cost to protect the District’s financial health. That motion failed, 2–3.
A subsequent motion asked the District to pay the entire $33.5 million cost, plus interest — roughly $40 million total. David voted no on that motion.
Every member of the Council voted, in one form or another, in favor of rebuilding the park. The disagreement was over how to pay for it — not whether to do it at all.
The bottom line
David Burke supported developing Arnold Cypress Park. He voted for a plan that would have had the City share the cost, and voted against one that left the parks district alone to cover roughly $40 million.
